SRH Campus Dresden

History of Dresden School of Management

We look back on a long history and how we have developed across 27 years from a hotel management school to a hotel academy and finally, with an expansion of our portfolio, to the Dresden School of Management. Today, we are pleased to have established ourselves as an international campus of the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences with a range of Bachelor and Master degree programmes.

How it all began...

The SRH Dresden School of Management was founded in 2009 as the SRH Hotel Academy. Three years later we affiliated as Campus Dresden of the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as SRH Hochschule Berlin.
Since 1994, after almost 20 years of experience in education and training for the hotel and catering industry, we initially started as a university with the established orientation in the hospitality sector. Through the lively exchange with the SRH University Network, our cooperation partners, and students we aim to meet the demand for qualified specialists and managers in other socially relevant sectors continuously expanding our repertoire. In addition to our established areas of Hotel and Tourism Management, the fields of Marketing, Business Psychology, Social Work and Digital Business Management now also enrich our university. In a lively exchange between students, teaching, companies and players in the education sector and cooperating industries, we have developed together with you into what we are today - an international campus that stands for innovative, sustainable higher education with competence, warm-heartedness, and a focus on the future.

Our history

2020 until today

In winter semester 2020/21, we will add the two new Bachelor programmes Business Psychology (B.SC.) and Social Work (B.A.) to our portfolio. In addition, we warmly welcome our two new professors Prof. Dr. Ute Kahle and Prof. Dr. Susanne Gellweiler to our Dresden location. In addition, we now also offer the two Master programmes International Business & Leadership and Hospitality Management & Leadership as a three-semester fast-track variant.

As our portfolio expands to include the three degree programmes Business Psychology (B.Sc.) and Social Work (B.A.) Dual and Full-time from WS 2020/21, we need new room capacities. Therefore, we will also be opening our new location in Dresden Neustadt at Antonstraße 39 in the winter semester 2021/22.
At the same time, the future-oriented, English-language Master's programme: Digital Business Management with a focus on IT Security & Software Engineering will start in winter intake.

Our history

2010-2019

Since 2012, the Dresden School of Management, formerly SRH Hotel-Akademie, has been part of the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences Berlin (formerly SRH Hochschule Berlin). In the winter semester 2012/13, we launched the first Bachelor's degree programme in International Hotel Management. In continuation of our previous focus on gastronomy and the hotel industry, we provide young professionals in the industry with an innovative and well-founded university education.

The International Tourism and Event Management degree programme was launched in the 2015 winter semester. This degree was designed to recruit and train qualified young professionals and managers for the increasingly booming tourism and event industry.

Marketing is independent of industries, company size and regions. Every company, every institution, every project thrives on reaching people through communication. In order to provide creative minds with the professional input for conception and implementation, the International Marketing Management degree programme started in the winter semester 2016/2017.

.

After successfully establishing our three Bachelor programmes, we were pleased to announce that SRH Hotel-Akademie Dresden was able to include two Master programmes for the first time to our portfolio. With Hospitality Management & Leadership M.A. and International Business & Leadership, we offer graduates of our degree programmes a further development of their skills.

In 2019, a merger between the three Berlin SRH sister universities took place. SRH Hochschule Berlin (with Dresden Campus), SRH Hochschule der populären Künste und Design Akademie Berlin, SRH Hochschule für Kommunikation und Design became the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences. The Dresden campus was renamed the Dresden School of Management to reflect the broader portfolio of study programmes.

Our history

2000-2009

On the 1st of August 2001, the Berufsförderungswerk Heidelberg of SRH took over the Hotelfachschule Pirna-Sonnenstein gGmbH. During this time, the SRH Group consisted of the SRH holding company and 18 subsidiaries. This also included the Berufsbildungswerk Sachsen in Dresden.
After the takeover by SRH, there was also a change in the school’s name. From that point on, the school is called SRH Hotel Management School Pirna.

After 14 years as an established hotel management school with 455 successfully completed training students, we reposition ourselves from a provider of training and further education to a university of applied sciences. On the 2nd of October 2009, the SRH Hotelfachschule Pirna became the SRH Hotel-Akademie Dresden. As a new division of the Berufsbildungswerk Sachsen, we ceremoniously opened our new and current location on Georgenstraße in Dresden.

Our history

1994-1999

Our origins lie in the Hotelfachschule Pirna-Sonnenstein gGmbH, which, as a state-approved hotel management school, offered further education courses for the catering trade and hoteliers. In its first year of existence, 1994/95, the school trained 46 cooks, hotel and restaurant specialists and state-certified business economists for the hotel and restaurant industry.

During the 1995/96 school year, the Hotelfachschule Pirna-Sonnenstein gGmbH received approval from the Saxon Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs to set up and run a technical school, a vocational school and a vocational school as a state-approved alternative school.

At the beginning of the school year, Karin Zimmermann started her work as the new headmistress of the Hotelfachschule Pirna-Sonnenstein gGmbH. As a qualified teacher of educational theory with extensive international experience, she has been teaching at the hotel management school since March 1995.

In this year, the Hotelfachschule Pirna-Sonnenstein gGmbH strengthened its international orientation within the framework of various European programmes and projects. For example, the exchange programme "Leonardo da Vinci" provided 12 trainees each the chance to complete a 3-week internship in gastronomic businesses in Teplice (CZ) and Spoleto (I). Further student exchanges within the framework of international programmes were carried out with the hotel management schools in Málaga (ESP), Teplice (CZ), Ústí nad Labem (CZ), Jesenik (P) and Umbria (I). In addition, the 3-year training course "State-certified assistant for the hotel, catering and tourism industry" includes intensive foreign language training and practical phases of several months abroad.

15 years of tradition: Hotelfachschule Pirna-Sonnenstein gGmbH

On 01.11.1994, 43 trainees began a 3-year training course in the field of hotel management/gastronomy, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Economics - a further three students began a 2-year further training course.
