Students from Berlin and Dresden explore the largest exhibition of contemporary art

Since the 1st of October 2019, the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences has united five schools at four locations in Berlin and Dresden. Doing so has connected students from different disciplines and university cultures across several disciplines. To get student in the right mindset for the joint university programme, some of them travelled together to the largest exhibition of contemporary art, the Venice Biennale.

The aim was to bring together students and teachers from the previously independent universities in a joint workshop under the umbrella of a common interest in contemporary art. Students of the 5th semester "International Tourism & Event Management" from the Dresden School of Management were represented. They were accompanied by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Vanessa Borkmann, the Professor of Tourism and Hotel Management.

In mixed groups from different schools and fields of study, they explored the exhibition over two days. After collectively selecting an inspiring artistic project, they learned about its background and ventured to interpret it. Afterwards, the students made a connection between the artistic theme and their field of study. Finally, all impressions and findings were presented to the other students and discussed together. The students and teachers were enthusiastic about the cross-school format, which will take place again in a similar way.
