The Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Primorska in Portoroz, Slovenia, welcomed Prof. Dr. Hartwig Bohne for a guest lecture in the seminar "Global dialogue in tourism". Following the invitation of Dr. Irena Weber, Ass. Professor in the Department of Cultural Tourism, the students discussed the cultural significance of tea ceremonies, their use as F&B offerings in hotels and the changing role of tea in the hotel industry, also for design and architecture.

Professor Bohne offered the lecture "Tea and hospitality - ceremonies and hotels as part of the tea heritage" as part of the research project "European Tea Culture & Hospitality" and explained the comparative study of Asian and Indian tea related hotel concepts as well as an international comparison of themed afternoon tea services.

"Tea offers a fascinating range of uses for the hotel industry and creates incomparable moments of enjoyment in gastronomy. Therefore, tea ceremonies, e.g. as part of the UNESCO awarded East Frisian Tea Culture, can be well placed as F&B events in the hotel industry as a profitable offer," underlined Prof. Bohne in the discussion with the students, "Tea pairing as an alternative to the corresponding wine selection is also becoming increasingly important, as well as the role of tea as a design impulse for the interior design or gardening concepts of hotels. Tea can be used to advantage as a holistic concept feature for a sustainable hotel," Bohne continues. Dr. Weber adds: "It is a good opportunity for us to establish the partnership with the Dresden School of Management and to link our anthropological and cultural science perspective on tea with the business perspective from Dresden. Prof. Bohne and I already work together very successfully in the 'European Tea Research Circle', so this lecture here in Portoroz is an impressive gesture as a sign of our partnership. We are very happy about it."
